Open position: Development Officer
Position Summary
New Visions is seeking a Development Officer, committed to urban school reform, to help expand our funding sources. The Development Officer will collaborate with the VP for External Affairs and Director of Development in building and maintaining relationships with donors. The New Visions Development team is responsible for raising and providing oversight for grants totaling over $20 million annually.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Shepherd fundraising efforts for a select portfolio of New Visions programs and funders, including prospecting and research to identify new sources of support, proposal and report writing and donor management.
- Act as liaison to select donors, facilitating communication, site visits and participation in New Visions’ events to deepen their involvement.
- Act as development department liaison to program staff, helping to refine goals, objectives and desired outcomes, track progress of grants to ensure accountability, build relationships between the donor and the program and fulfill all grant obligations.
- Participate in preparation of the annual development plan and manage a portfolio to meet organization’s fundraising goals.
- Develop lists of prospective donors for new and existing programs, prioritize for further research and develop cultivation and solicitation strategies in collaboration with the Development Director and the VP for External Affairs.
- Support events as needed in coordination with other staff and VP of External Affairs.
- Ensure timely acknowledgment, proper follow-up and adherence to deadlines.
- Maintain records of donor activity and research in Raiser’s Edge and hard files.
- Monitor progress towards meeting fundraising goals.
Education and Experience
- B.A. or equivalency required; Masters in Education or related field preferred.
- Three to five years of related experience in a nonprofit or in an educational environment.
- Required Skillsets and Knowledge Base:
- Excellent writing skills; grant writing experience a plus.
- Knowledge of current education reform essential.
- Excellent strategic thinking skills, written and verbal communication skills and ability to “market” ideas.
- Must be able to set priorities and move multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, identify and communicate potential needs or problems and be flexible when priorities are unexpectedly shifted.
- Tact, diplomacy and ability to work as part of a team with diverse people important.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus.
