Open position: Development Associate
Position Summary
Provide administrative and project support to the Vice President of External Affairs, the Development team and contribute towards furthering the team’s goals.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Information Management
- Manage Raiser’s Edge database and implement maintenance procedures; Create and maintain Raiser’s Edge Reports; Program new, and maintain existing, Crystal Reports. Develop systems for tracking all information regarding current and prospective donors.
- Track news about Board members and key donors on an ongoing basis; share relevant information regularly with Development team and New Visions leadership, and record relevant information in Raiser’s Edge;
- Organize and maintain limited hard files and ensure consistency with Raiser’s Edge records.
Donor Communication
- Manage all department mailings and mailing lists using Raiser’s Edge.
- Provide logistical support to the annual fund appeal, including preparation of lists, letters and reports.
- Work with Development team to prepare timely customized acknowledgments to all donors.
Meetings/Events
- Compile and distribute materials for quarterly board meetings.
- Organize site visits at schools for donors, board members and prospects.
- Help prepare materials for donor/prospect meetings. Specialize in PowerPoint document production.
- Help out with additional funder meetings and events as needed.
Prospect Research
- Track and monitor government grants and organizational eligibility. Distribute applicable information to Development team and relevant program staff.
- Conduct prospect research on institutional and individual donors and create customized donor profiles in Raiser’s Edge.
- Contribute to departmental planning and problem solving activities.
Administrative Duties
- Monitor deadlines and prepare applications for giving campaigns that focus on local, state and federal government employees; complete Better Business Bureau certification and other applications as they arise.
- Process all gifts received and provide Finance Department with gift information.
- Organize department’s electronic files.
- Schedule departmental meetings.
- Provide administrative support to Development team as needed.
Education and Experience
- B.A. or equivalency required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ related experience in a nonprofit or foundation environment.
Required Skillsets and Knowledge Base
- Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint required.
- Prospect research experience highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Tact, diplomacy and the ability to work with diverse people important.
- Must be able to set priorities in a fast-paced environment, identify and communicate potential needs or problems, and work independently.
